Gas prices hiked by $4.50 in Jamaica

Jamaica motorists will pay more when they go to the pumps on Thursday as gas prices have risen by $4.50.

The state-owned oil refinery, Petrojam, says E-10 87 is to move up by $4.50 to sell for $186.93 per litre and a litre of E-10 90 will also go up by $4.50 sell for $191.92.

Automotive diesel oil will move up by $4.50 per litre to sell for $190.97.

The price of Kerosene will go up by $4.50 to sell for $165.57.

In the meantime, propane cooking gas will go up by $4.50 to sell for $84.82, while butane will also move up by $4.50 to sell for $94.01 per litre.

In related news, SIDS DOCK, the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) sustainable energy and climate resilience organisation is worried that SIDS economies, struggling to recover from the battering by the COVID-19 pandemic, could be devastated by oil prices spiked by the crisis in Ukraine. Noting that small economies are 90 per cent dependent on already expensive oil imports, the SIDS DOCK Chair, His Excellency Mr. Ronald Jumeau, Ambassador and former Permanent Representative of the Republic of Seychelles to the United Nations (UN) and the SIDS DOCK Roving Ambassador for Oceans, said the war in Europe could sink SIDS economies, “as well as their hopes and efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, which ravaged their islands.” He said SIDS, dispersed far from Ukraine, “will experience exploding and uncontrollable energy prices the longer the shooting continues.”
