Joe Biden’s radically pro-abortion FDA nominee Robert Califf, has cleared his first Senate vote, as the Senate today voted to end debate and set up a vote on his final confirmation scheduled for tomorrow.
Califf secured a 49-45 vote today to end debate but tomorrow’s confirmation vote is expected to be closer. As The Hill reports:
Five Republicans joined with Democrats to invoke cloture and end debate: Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Richard Burr (N.C.), Mitt Romney (Utah), and Roy Blunt (Mo.).
Prior to the vote, five Democrats had already spoken out against him; Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) are expected to oppose Califf’s nomination.
Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) is absent after suffering a stroke, so if all Republicans who oppose Califf are present, Democrats will need one more vote in their favor to confirm.
A coalition of 49 pro-life groups, including LifeNews.com, have written to senators urging a no vote on his confirmation because he was instrumental in opening up sales of the abortion pill, which has killed dozens of women, injured thousands more and killed millions of unborn babies.
Califf also served in the role under President Barack Obama. Under Califf’s leadership, the FDA weakened safety regulations for the drug, also known as RU-486 or Mifeprex.
Now, the Biden administration is considering getting rid of even more of the safety regulations, and several Republican senators wanted to know if Califf would support such changes as allowing abortion businesses to sell abortion drugs through the mail without ever seeing the woman in person.
