On September 22, 2017, President Donald Trump at a rally in Alabama, addressed the protests of a few NFL players; who had decided to “do a Colin Kaepernick” and protest “racial injustice” in the U.S.A. by kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem at games. The President’s response: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!” You know, some owner is going to do that. He’s going to say, “That guy that disrespects our flag, he’s fired.”

Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick’s backers in the media, have made the George Floyd protests more about Kaepernick than it has been about Floyd.

Initially, the radical lefties, perpetually offended by all and sundry, latched onto the phrase “son of a bitch” and argued that it was racist. As a result, what was a marginal protest before Trump’s speech, all of a sudden became something league-wide.

But the “racist” steam around Trump’s “son of a bitch” comment didn’t last very long. The fans sided with the President, and booed every single team that participated in the kneeling in the immediate aftermath of Trump’s speech.

Soon, the protests reverted to the fringe, and the left needed something else to blame Trump for. Thus was born the widely peddled falsehood, that Donald Trump changed Colin Kaepernick’s protest; which was solely about racial oppression; and made it about the flag.

To repeat: Trump on September 22, stated: “You know, some owner is going to do that. He’s going to say, “That guy that disrespects our flag, he’s fired.”

And it is this line the fake news media, especially, sports media, have used, to denigrate and falsely accuse Trump. Prominent sports media figures like Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman, and Shannon Sharpe, have all, over the years, accused Trump of tainting Kaepernick’s cause, and making it about the flag.

In the immediate aftermath of George Floyd’s death, Kaepernick’s kneeling protest, which had been consigned to the waste bin of historical insignificance; was all of a sudden rejuvenated, thanks in large part to these “activists” cum sports analysts on television. And with Drew Brees now essentially neutered, and apologizing to all who would listen; these analysts have been pounding their desks daily, stating “It’s Trump’s fault.”

Over the weekend, Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, in response to a fan’s tweet that Watt “won’t be taking a knee” if the NFL starts its 2020 season; tweeted: “A) don’t speak for me, B) if you still think it’s about disrespecting the flag or our military, you clearly haven’t been listening.”

Yes. That fan clearly hasn’t been listening to the false narrative on Trump. Watt on the other hand clearly has. And that was the whole point. If you say a lie enough times; it eventually becomes the truth to the sheep, who unfortunately, number in the billions.

But History has and will continue to absolve Trump of this malicious and false claim. And ironically, so has Colin Kaepernick.

On August 27, 2016, A full 13 months before Trump stated anything about kneeling being disrespectful to the flag, Colin Kaepernick in a post game press conference, stated this to the media: “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
