“The most disloyal actual retard that has ever set foot in the Oval Office is trying to lose AND take the Senate with him,”; wrote a particular conservative pundit, about President Donald Trump on Sunday. “Another Roy Moore fiasco so he can blame someone else for his own mess.”
If someone from 2016 were waking up to this tweet, the last person they’d suspect tweeted this, would have been Ann Coulter; who back then, was perhaps up there with the most staunch Trump supporters.
But for anyone who’s been paying attention, the Trump Coulter feud isn’t new. This latest dust up comes on the back of Trump’s most recent criticism of former Attorney General and Alabama senate candidate, Jeff Sessions. Coulter went off on Twitter in response to this Trump tweet.
“3 years ago, after Jeff Sessions recused himself, the Fraudulent Mueller Scam began. Alabama, do not trust Jeff Sessions. He let our Country down. That’s why I endorsed Coach Tommy Tuberville (@TTuberville), the true supporter of our #MAGA agenda!” Trump tweeted.
But Coulter has since come to Sessions’ defense: “Trump didn’t build the wall and never had any intention of doing so. The ONE PERSON in the Trump administration who did anything about immigration was Jeff Session. And this lout attacks him.”
“Sessions HAD to recuse himself, you complete blithering idiot.” Coulter posted in another tweet. “YOU did not have to go on Lester Holt’s show and announce you fired Comey over the Russian investigation. That’s what got you a Special Prosecutor.”
But for Coulter, her spat with the president is not personal but one over what she sees as a failure to deliver on his main campaign agenda: “I will never apologize for supporting the issues that candidate Trump advocated, but I am deeply sorry for thinking that this shallow and broken man would show even some remote fealty to the promises that got him elected.”
From Coulter’s tweets, it’s obvious what issue has her really riled up: it’s immigration. She clearly isn’t satisfied with what Trump has done or has failed to do on that front. In a Washington Examiner article last year entitled: Why Trump Doesn’t Like Ann Coulter Anymore, the paper declared; “Unlike virtually every other conservative media figure, Coulter doesn’t give Trump a pass on the one campaign promise that, more than anything else, made him a political force.”
The piece adds that Coulter is “the only prominent Trump supporter who isn’t excusing him for failing on the border wall. Trump can hate her for it, but excuses aren’t going to work in 2020.”
The last line should be concerning for Trump supporters, as this infighting may just cost him a second term. And the way Coulter is going, it sounds like she’d even prefer a Democrat to beat Trump, over what she sees as his immigration failure.
