Fat-shaming as defined by the Cambridge dictionary, is “the act of criticizing or drawing attention to someone for being fat, making them feel embarrassed or ashamed”. What’s interesting about the Cambridge definition; in light of recent events; is how the dictionary chooses to use the word in a sentence. “The government should be able to issue healthy eating advice without fat-shaming.“
Clearly Nancy Pelosi, one of the most powerful persons in the American government, couldn’t avoid giving the President advice without fat-shaming him. It goes without saying that, as ardent a virtue signaller as Pelosi is; her fat-shaming President Donald Trump, is an act of pure hypocrisy.
Joining Democrat friendly news outlet CNN, Pelosi was asked by host Anderson Cooper on Monday night: “Madam Speaker, what is your reaction to the president saying he is now taking hydroxychloroquine? Are you concerned?”
Pelosi replied: “As far as the president is concerned, he’s our president and I would rather he not be taking something that has not been approved by the scientists, especially in his age group and in his, shall we say, weight group — morbidly obese they say.”
There is of course, nothing morbidly obese about Donald Trump. So Pelosi was using those who actually are morbidly obese; to poke fun at the president.
The predictable whataboutism of the fat-shamers
And for those who say, Trump has done his fair share of name-calling and fat-shaming in the past: yes; it’s true he has. But Trump has never pretended to be a champion of political correctness and sensitivity.
Pelosi currently is the leader of the party of safe spaces and social justice warriors. Why then is she so quick to fat shame? Unless of course she in principle has no problem with it. Making her a liar, as well as a hypocrite.
But this is hardly the first time Pelosi has trafficked in double standards. Recently, she has publicly declared her support for the Democrat Presidential Nominee Joe Biden; who’s been accused of sexual assault by Tara Reade, a woman. Women who, before Biden was accused, all had to be believed, as pontificated by Pelosi.
So overjoyed have liberals been by Pelosi’s fat jab at Trump, it seems they’ve conveniently forgotten how they’ve over the years, shamed the so-called ‘fatphobic’ among us, for allegedly shaming fat people.
Tweeted one in obvious glee: “How did Anderson Cooper keep a straight face? This is brutal! #TrumpMorbidlyObese“
“I prefer presidents that aren’t morbidly obese. #TrumpMorbidlyObese“; tweeted another, fully seeped in his newfound fatphobia. The tweet was accompanied by a picture of former president Obama. The message against fat people clear. “You’re not fit to be president”. Not to liberals anyway, who for years virtue signalled how much they cared for the plight of the fat man. Even shaming Adele for daring to lose too much weight recently. But silly me. Adele is Adele and Trump is Trump.
Anyway, it is intriguing, just how quick liberals are to dismiss the rules of engagement they themselves put in place, in order to unload on conservatives; especially on one Donald J Trump.
