So Fox News’ ‘The Five’ cohost and host of “The Greg Gutfeld Show”, Greg Gutfeld, is trending on Twitter; simply because President Trump had the temerity to congratulate the ‘conservative’ news host and comedian on his ratings success over his late night rivals.
“Wow!” Trump tweeted earlier. “Congratulations to Greg Gutfeld, a one time Trump Hater who has come all the way home. His Ratings easily beat no talent Stephen Colbert, nice guy Jimmy Fallon, and wacko “last placer” Jimmy Kimmel. Greg built his show from scratch, and did a great job in doing so. @FoxNews“
And it really is a great job by Gutfeld and Fox. Typically cable news shows only compete ratings-wise with other cable news shows.

But as The Hill’s Joe Concha who’s also a Fox News contributor writes: “”The Greg Gutfeld Show” on Fox News finished April with an average of 2.86 million viewers, marking its highest ratings in program history while topping broadcast late-night rivals on CBS, NBC and ABC, according to Nielsen Media Research.”
“The weekly Saturday night program” Concha continues, “topped Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” on CBS, which averaged 2.78 million viewers. It also beat NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and its 2.09 million viewers as well as ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” which averaged 2 million viewers in April.”
“The numbers are noteworthy since Saturdays are generally the least-watched nights of television, along with Fridays.” pens Concha who also points out that all networks have seen an increase in ratings since partial and total shutdowns have been enforced in the U.S.
“Fox News averaged 3.68 million viewers in primetime in April, with MSNBC registering 2.04 million and CNN 1.95 million, according to Nielsen. On the broadcast side, ABC’s “World News Tonight” with David Muir was the top evening newscast in the country, averaging 10.2 million total viewers. NBC’s “Nightly News” was second with 9.6 million viewers and the “CBS Evening News” with Norah O’Donnell took in 6.7 million.”
So this truly is a cause for celebration for Gutfeld and Fox News. Of course, most of Twitter doesn’t see it that way.
One said individual tweeted this: “Greg Gutfeld show is on late Saturday night all by itself. All the other[s] you listed have daily late night shows that are in direct competition to each other. It’s not hard to have higher ratings when you’re the only one on[e].”
Another Twitter Twit asked: “Who is Greg Gutfeld?”
Oh the palpable irony of that question.
“A one time Trump hater who has come all the way home” Greg Gutfeld recommended by Trump? Never heard of the guy but have heard of the next one on the alphabetical list, @fred_guttenberg, who clearly has more consistent morals.” wrote another.
So clearly much of Twitter is upset by the news and even more by the fact that Trump was pleased by it. Keep in mind this “news” broke three days ago. Think about that.
