Peterson Francis: Hardy John’s Death Targeted

St. Lucia Times

Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis, has expressed condolences to the family of Hardy John who was shot dead at the Marchand market Thursday morning, asserting that it was a ‘targeted killing’.

John was employed by the Castries Constituency Council (CCC) and was doing security duty at the time he was reportedly shot in the head after a gunman called out to him.

A colleague who was with the deceased at the time was unharmed, according to reports.

The Mayor, who visited the scene of the incident, said the fatal shooting was a very tragic development.

“You could see it was a targeted killing. He was there taking a rest on a table and he was shot right there on the table,” the Mayor, who said he had been briefed by the police, disclosed.

He described Hardy John as a good, very quiet worker.

“We must understand that within a short space of time we have  lost two of our security guards,” Francis recalled.

“I sincerely hope it is not a pattern that is developing that our security guards are being targeted,” he told reporters, adding that the CCC would have to reassess how to make things safer for its security guards.

“It is very hurtful to see that in such a short space of time we have lost two of our very good workers,” Francis lamented.

Just recently, CCC employee, Stephen ‘Face’ Francis was gunned down in Wilton’s Yard.

The Mayor explained that Hardy John would rotate jobs, at times working in the gardens,  in Castries and as a security guard at the market.

“Unfortunately, last night he was rotated to be here,”  Francis observed.

He said he hoped whoever was responsible for Hardy’s death would be brought to justice.”
