“Realize that the “Obamacare subsidies in this bill are actually greater under the Republican bill than they are under the current Obamacare law. That is not anywhere close to repeal.” Sen. Rand Paul
Senator Rand Paul is one of the few senators who has any real integrity left, especially on Healthcare reform. He has remained consistent throughout this entire process, continuing to say the same things he said years ago when he and his fellow Republican Senators, voted to repeal Obamacare.
However, that was when President Obama was still in the White House and had the power to veto whatever Republican senators had passed. They were therefore safe in the knowledge that even though they all promised and voted to repeal Obamacare, it wouldn’t actually be repealed and so the political risk in doing so was minuscule. Therefore, by promising to repeal without ever having to do so, meant the Republicans kept on winning elections based on a promise they never had to keep.
Now that Donald Trump is President, all of that bluster about repealing Obamacare is gone. Now, all the Republican senate is “concerned” about is the negative impact of repealing Obamacare and all of the lives it will affect. That concern of course did not prevent them from voting to repeal Obamacare while Obama was President, but now that Trump is in office; a President who would actually sign off on repealing Obamacare, it is all of a sudden a stumbling block for Republicans.
The media pressure Rand Paul receives is unwarranted and unfair. He is one of the few senators who actually takes keeping his promises seriously. To the media however, both conservative and liberal alike, he is just a stubborn mule who doesn’t know the meaning of the word compromise. They of course refuse to apply any pressure on the oath breakers, who swore to repeal Obamacare and now are breaking their promise. Somehow, failure to pass Healthcare reform, is Rand Paul’s fault.
Hopefully Rand Paul keeps his integrity throughout this ugly process and stands firm on this issue, even though he is heavily criticized by the President himself and by his traitorous fellow Republican Senators.
